New Wizz Air Route Connects Alicante with Venice Starting in September 2026

The Costa Blanca continues to strengthen its connections with the rest of Europe. In another sign of the region’s growing popularity, Wizz Air has announced a new direct flight route between Alicante-Elche Airport and Venice Marco Polo Airport, scheduled to launch in September 2026.

The new route will make travel between Spain’s sunny Mediterranean coast and one of Italy’s most iconic cities faster and easier than ever. For both tourists and property investors, improved air connectivity is always good news.

Direct Flights Between Alicante and Venice

According to the announcement, the new Alicante–Venice route will begin operating on September 15, 2026. The flights are expected to run three times per week, giving travelers flexible options for weekend trips or longer holidays.

This route will connect Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport, one of Spain’s busiest tourist airports, with Venice Marco Polo Airport, the main international gateway to the famous Italian lagoon city.

The addition of this route is part of Wizz Air’s broader expansion strategy in Europe, particularly strengthening its network from Venice. The airline is adding a new aircraft to its Venice base, allowing it to open several new routes across the continent.

For travelers, this means more choices and often lower ticket prices thanks to increased competition between airlines.

Why This Route Matters for Costa Blanca

New direct flight connections are always significant for tourism-driven regions like Costa Blanca.

Alicante Airport already serves millions of international passengers every year, with strong connections to the UK, Germany, Scandinavia, and the Netherlands. However, connections with northern Italy have historically been more limited, which makes this new route particularly interesting.

More Italian Visitors

Northern Italy is one of the wealthiest regions in Europe and a strong source of international travelers. With a direct flight now available, more Italian tourists may discover the beaches, gastronomy, and relaxed lifestyle of Costa Blanca.

Short flights also encourage weekend trips and city-break travel, which helps local tourism businesses throughout the year.

A Boost for Alicante Airport

Alicante-Elche Airport continues to grow year after year, regularly breaking passenger records. Airlines are expanding routes because demand for travel to the Costa Blanca remains strong.

Each new route helps reinforce the airport’s position as one of Spain’s most important international tourist hubs.

More connections mean:

  • Easier travel for tourists
  • Greater international visibility for the region
  • More potential visitors exploring Costa Blanca for the first time

And sometimes those visitors fall in love with the area and decide to return not just for holidays — but possibly for longer stays.

Travel Between Two Mediterranean Icons

The new flight route connects two completely different, yet equally fascinating Mediterranean destinations.

Alicante offers sunshine, beaches, mountain landscapes, and a relaxed coastal lifestyle. The city is famous for its long seaside promenades, historic castle views, and year-round mild climate.

Venice, on the other hand, is one of the most unique cities in the world, built on canals and islands with centuries of history, art, and architecture.

For travelers, the new route opens up exciting possibilities:

  • Italians discovering the Costa Blanca beaches
  • Spanish travelers exploring Venice’s historic charm
  • Easy Mediterranean city-break combinations

A direct flight between the two cities typically takes around two hours, making it a quick and convenient journey.

Costa Blanca’s Growing International Appeal

Over the past decade, the Costa Blanca has become increasingly popular not only with tourists but also with international residents.

People from across Europe — particularly from northern countries — are choosing the region for:

  • Better weather
  • Lower living costs compared to many European cities
  • A relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle
  • Strong international communities

Improved air connections play a major role in this trend. When flights are frequent and affordable, it becomes much easier for people to consider longer stays, remote work, or even relocation.

Planning a Trip to Alicante

If you are planning to visit Alicante from Italy or anywhere else in Europe, the region offers far more than just beaches.

Some highlights include:

Just outside the city, travelers can also explore charming coastal towns such as Altea, Villajoyosa, and Jávea, as well as natural parks and mountain villages inland.

The combination of nature, culture, gastronomy, and climate makes Costa Blanca one of the most attractive regions in Spain.

A Sign of Continued Growth

The launch of the Alicante–Venice route reflects a broader trend: Costa Blanca continues to gain international attention.

Airlines only open new routes when demand is strong and growing. With millions of tourists visiting every year and more international residents choosing the region, Alicante Airport is likely to see even more new connections in the coming years.

For travelers, that means easier access to one of Spain’s most beautiful coastal regions.

And for Costa Blanca itself, it confirms something locals have known for a long time: once people discover this Mediterranean paradise, they tend to come back.
